New brand Enhabit to lead revolution in energy efficient building

  • New UK-based energy efficiency building brand launches

  • Enhabit specialises in transforming older buildings into more comfortable, controllable and energy efficient homes and workplaces

  • Housing and Planning Minister highlights huge importance of improving the energy performance of existing homes

enhabit_logoMay 5, 2016: Enhabit, an environmentally conscious building design, project management and product brand, has launched with the aim of leading a step change in how the energy efficient retrofit of buildings are delivered in the UK.

Hosted at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in London, the launch event yesterday featured keynote speeches by Brandon Lewis MP, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, and former CEO of Barratt Developments plc Mark Clare, an investor and non-executive director of Enhabit.

With more than one quarter of the UK’s carbon emissions coming from the houses we live in and recognising that 75% of the homes that will exist in 2050 have already been built, there is a real need to generate momentum around retrofitting older homes, to bring them closer in performance to modern day standards.

Enhabit specialises in the retrofit of existing buildings to incorporate high levels of insulation and other new technologies, so they are more air tight, more comfortable to live or work in and cheaper to run.

UK Government Minister of State for Housing and Planning, Brandon Lewis said, "This Government is committed to insulating a million more homes and has already increased the energy standard for new properties by over 30% since 2010. This is reducing energy bills by £200 on average and saving carbon.

"We want to see greater investment in innovative energy efficient technologies for both new and existing homes and welcome Enhabit's push to ensure more energy efficiency is achieved."

With a team made up of building physics engineers and architects with proven industry expertise in delivering energy performance, Enhabit works to transform uncomfortable and wasteful buildings into comfortable and controllable living and work spaces.

Mark Clare, an investor and non-executive director of Enhabit, said, “The launch of Enhabit today reflects the huge opportunity that exists for the private sector to get involved in improving the performance of homes and work spaces.

Enhabit has already built a strong track record as an expert in its field and has delivered real improvements for its customers. Its aim is to ensure it is best placed to play a larger role in this growing market and the team at Enhabit have a real passion and desire to push forward and lead the way.”

Using fabric-first building physics, Enhabit help their clients take control of their living and working environments and create future-facing buildings that are easy to maintain, efficient to run and a pleasure to live and work in.

Akta Raja, co-founder and managing director of Enhabit, said, “Buildings are controlling how we live and work in them, instead of the other way around. The Enhabit team works with homeowners and business's to increase control, comfort and ultimately their quality of space while reducing both running costs and the environmental impact.”

Enhabit has grown from Green Tomato Energy Ltd, which has helped many homeowners, architects and businesses to create genuinely energy efficient buildings. The group designed and delivered the first Enerphit retrofit in London and the first two Passivhaus retrofits in the UK, winning the CIBSE Award for energy efficient buildings.
