Before looking for life on other planets

Before we go looking for life on other planets can we stop killing life on this one?

by Michael Smith (Veshengro)

Earth_Eastern_HemisphereFirst it was the space race which, in the end, gave us the great pictures of Earth from outer space which, to a great degree, kindled the understanding of the fragility of our Planet.

Now, however, while there are serious threats to life on Earth we are wasting enormous sums, in the US and elsewhere, on attempts to reach other planets, such as Mars, and talk is about a permanent base and settlements on the Moon. In fact some people are trying, already, to sell real estate on our closest planetary neighbor.

Instead of spending millions, even billions, of dollars to look for life on other planets or to create bases and outposts there any of such monies would be much better spent on fixing the problems with climate change and pollution at home, on Earth.

Despite the fact that some, shall I call them by what they are, idiots, even though they are eminent scientists, such as Prof. Stephen Hawkins, tell us that the Earth is doomed and life on it and we must look to the stars for a new home, the fact is that there is but one Planet where live, proper, exist, within our reach and that is the very Planet that we are on, our Mother Earth.

Therefore, we must do all that we can to clean up our act and the Planet for this is the only one that we have that supports life in all its forms. Thus, before continuing to look for life on other planets we must get our act straight as regards to life on this Planet and invest the money that we throw at space exploration in cleaning up the Earth.
